Riri is one of the proponents of the naked music movement that this article talked about. What do you think?
Music started in heaven before the throne of God. The Holy Book tells us that the twenty-four Elders sing before the throne of Light all day all night, without resting. I guess they dance too. From the lofty heights of God’s throne however music eventually tumbled down to the half bare behinds of Rihanna and Nicki Minaj in “Work” and “Anaconda“. Congratulations everybody, we humans just invented twerking. If you haven’t watched a twerk video yet you are not alive, period.
Twerk, as a word, made it to the 2013 Word of the Year shortlist. Yes it did. The meaning was listed thus: ‘dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.’ An example was provided in a sentence, to make the meaning clearer: ‘Just wait till they catch their daughters twerking to this song.’
Please note that it was not all just satanists, pagans and atheists that turned this word to a sub-culture, making it its own genre. Some of us law abiding Christians twerked, and watched twerking. The same hips that twerked all night at the clubs on Friday fall under the anointing on Sunday mornings. I am not the moral police. It is just what it is.
Let the truth be told. One half of the human gender divide loves twerking as much as the other half loves watching it. That is the good news. The bad news is that there is no way on earth twerking can get a pass mark beside anybody’s name on God’s book of life.
Everybody knows that God does not like half naked females showing themselves off to the public eye– or half naked males for that matter. God doesn’t enjoy the sight of half covered bum bum of half naked females and worse: the shaking half naked bum bum of half naked females – when it is displayed just as a public sexual spectacle. No, God doesn’t like such things. And yet… I think twerking was invented to piss off God. Hey, God. Think we can’t sink lower than we have sunk already? Watch this. Twerk it twerk it twerk it!Twerk it twerk it twerk it!
If you are a mother in today’s world you should realize that your only assignment in this world is to keep your daughters away from twerking. Keep their ears and eyes the hell away from Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Keep them away from some music videos of Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade. Make sure they never see half of what Iyanya and Pato Rankin show on TV. I don’t particularly care how you do this. Just do it. Souls might just depend on it.
The repercussions are clear if you fail. God wouldn’t think much of your abilities as a mother on Judgment Day. Is that enough to earn you a free fall ticket to the eternal flames of hell? Oh well. I don’t know. We would wait and see. I watch(ed) twerking too and I have no idea yet if your ticket number would be close to mine on hell train. I will know when I die. But why wait? It’s ok now for everybody to laugh at the idea of a real hell. But what if hell exists? What if it is not a burning lake but a place where love and kindness is completely absent? I have seen hell in the ghettos of Lagos. I don’t want to have nothing to do with such places.Damn you, twerking!
As tempting as watching twerking on YouTube is I don’t think it is worth it to go to hell for it. Not in the flesh, certainly not as a ghost either. If you don’t believe in the after life or spiritual responsibility you can laugh at us and keep the twerk movement going on strong of course. What’s the worst that could happen when you die? You rot and stop existing. But if you do believe in the after life and spiritual responsibility stop and think about it. I swear nothing good could come out of this twerking thing. Even without the heaven or hell end it doesn’t say much for the self-dignity of the human race. Maybe women could twerk for their husbands in the safe privacy of their rooms. I don’t know. There is something not just right about making the thing a public spectacle.
My point is: should we or should we not be concerned about how such harmless things like twerking affect the moral and rational compass of the young?
